With medical marijuana flower on its way to Louisiana dispensaries (also known as just pharmacies), one big concern is being brought up. Will I smell like marijuana if I use marijuana flower?

Good question! Marijuana does have a very distinct and potent smell. The Louisiana medical marijuana program up until has only offered marijuana oil products. With marijuana oil, you don’t have to worry about smelling like marijuana after you medicate.

Even though there is no harm in smelling like cannabis, it can be a bit embarrassing for some. The smell is a dead give away that you have been smoking marijuana which many like to keep personal to themselves as there can be stigma surrounding the subject.

There are a lot of questions that Louisianians have raised when it comes to the cannabis scent. We will be answering all of these questions today!

Q: Will smoking in a steamy bathroom help with the marijuana smell?

A: Smoking in a steamy bathroom is almost a rite of passage in the marijuana community. Everyone does it at some point! Many people stuff a towel under the door and “hotbox” the room.

While hot boxing a room does contain the marijuana smell from seeping into the rest of the house, it will not totally eliminate the odor. When you come out of the bathroom, you will more than likely smell of marijuana. The odor in the bathroom usually dissipates after about a half an hour or so.

Q: Can I remove the smell after hotboxing?

A: You definitely can remove the marijuana odors after a hotbox! The best thing to do is get some air flowing in the room. If there is a window, definitely open it up or put a fan in the room. This will help the marijuana smell to dissipate faster.

Another trick you can use is the baking soda trick! Open a couple of boxes of baking soda and place them around the room. Baking soda absorbs the odor that is in the air.

You also can be proactive and like some candles or incense to make the place smell differently. This will also help cover up any lingering odors that may still be in the room.

Q: If I smoke out the window, will that help with the smell?

A: Smoking marijuana flower and blowing it out of the window will definitely decrease the marijuana smell!

There are still some tricks you can use to make this work even better! You can blow into an air conditioner vent which will take the smell outside of the room or you can use a tool called a sploof. “A sploof is a cylindrical object that filters cannabis smoke through a set of perforated materials. The device uses a filtering material, such as a dryer sheet, to remove smoke and odor particles from smoke blown into it.

For these two tricks to work, just make sure that the wind is blowing away from the room or else the odor will come right back at you!

Q: What if I smoke in the shower? Will that decrease the marijuana smell?

A: Many people try to do this thinking that it will help but it really doesn’t. Smoking in the shower is just a steamy hotbox. The steam will help contain the smell in the bathroom but it won’t prevent the smell.

Also keep in mind that since you are smoking marijuana flower, it will be hard to keep it lit because of the water and moisture in the bathroom.

Q: If I smoke outside, will someone else smell it?

A: If you are smoking outside, someone could definitely smell it but there are a lot of factors that come into play with this one. The odor of marijuana can travel depending on the direction of the wind, how fast it is blowing, the humidity in the air and many other factors as well.

Of course, your method of medicating also plays a role in this too. If you smoke a joint or pre-rolls, these will smell more potent than dry herb vaping or just vaping in general.

Q: Will my clothes smell like marijuana after I smoke?

It all depends on how you are smoking your marijuana flower. If you are smoking a joint or a blunt, it is more likely that the smoke can seep into your clothes because the scent is stronger. If you are using a bong, it won’t be as strong.

You can easily get rid of the smell by changing your clothes or spraying some body sprays or air fresheners!

Takeaways. . .

Even though you could leave a marijuana smell behind with flower, try not to get overly concerned. Smells usually dissipate quickly and with some of these tips and tricks you can cover the order easily!
