We all know the beloved staple. . . the marijuana brownie. The marijuana brownie is the classic version of edibles that most people think of when discussing edibles. A cult film back in the 1960’s named “I Love You, Alice B. Toklas” assisted in moving brownie edibles to the top of everyone’s list. It is still a cultural staple to this day.
Last week, I shared with you a recipe for making your own marijuana-infused butter at home in your own kitchen. Today, we are going to use that recipe in order to make these delicious canna-brownies!
Flower is just around the corner in Louisiana so you will soon be able to purchase marijuana buds at your local dispensary to use this recipe.
At Louisiana Marijuana Card, we not only want to provide you with your medical marijuana card in the simplest and easiest way but we also want to give you tips on how to consume medical marijuana in the best way for you. Edibles are one of the most popular formats so making edible brownies at home can be something you add to your repertoire!
Marijuana Brownies
Brownie Ingredients:
½ cup unsalted butter & cannabutter
This ratio is based on your personal dosage preference. I suggest using a ¼ cup of unsalted butter and a ¼ cup of a medium strength cannabutter.
3 oz. unsweetened chocolate
Use a chocolate bar and chop it into pieces. This will yield about ½ a cup of chopped chocolate.
¾ cup all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
¼ tsp. salt
½ cup sugar
½ cup brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
½ cup semisweet chocolate chips
Frosting Ingredients:
6 tbs. unsalted, softened butter
¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
⅛ tsp. salt
1 ¼ cup powdered sugar
½ tsp. of vanilla extract
3-5 tbs. of milk or a milk alternative such as almond or oat milk
Brownie Instructions:
Begin by preheating your oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
While the oven is preheating, you can either lightly grease an 8 x 8 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper so that the brownies don’t stick to the pan.
Melt the chopped chocolate and the butter in a glass bowl over a simmering pot of water. Stir frequently to make sure the chocolate is melted and does not burn. Once the mix is melted, let it sit to cool.
In another bowl, mix together flour, salt and baking powder and set to the side.
Add the sugar and brown sugar into the melted chocolate mix and whisk. Then add the eggs, vanilla extract and mix together.
Once all these ingredients are mixed, add the flour mixture to this bowl and combine together.
Stir the chocolate chips into the mix.
Pour the batter into the baking pan and bake for about 25-35 minutes.
You can make sure it is cooked fully by inserting a toothpick or a knife into the center and seeing if it comes out mostly clean. There will be some chocolate on it but it shouldn’t be fully wet.
Once the brownies are cooked fully, remove them from the oven and let cool before removing them from the pan.
Frosting Instructions:
With a mixer, add butter, cocoa powder and salt to a medium sized bowl and mix until light and fluffy.
Add the powdered sugar to the bowl and mix them all together.
Add vanilla extract and milk.
Start with 3 tbs. and then add up to 5 tbs. to get the frosting texture just right. It should be thin enough to spend but not runny.
Once the brownies have cooled down, add the frosting evenly over the brownies.
Enjoy!
Things to Remember
Keep in mind that when making your own marijuana brownies at home, the dosage can vary since you have made them yourself. The best way that you can avoid over-consumption is to start low and slow. We suggest that you start with a very small amount of a brownie, wait at least an hour to feel the effects. If the effect is not strong enough for you it is best to wait until the next day to try a little more and repeat the process until you find the dose that is perfect for you!
Don’t feel like you have to eat them all before they go bad either. You can store them in the freezer so you can have your edibles at any time in the future!
